Canada eTA processing time: what happens after applying

The Government of Canada states that most eTA applications are approved within minutes. Some applications require additional review or supporting documents, and instructions may be sent within 72 hours.

Neither an application-assistance company nor an airline can guarantee approval or a specific decision time.

Confirm that the email address was entered correctly and check spam folders. If additional documents are requested, follow only the instructions provided through official Canadian government channels.

Avoid submitting repeated applications simply because an answer has not arrived immediately; duplicates can create confusion and additional charges.

Travel with the same passport used in the approved application. Airlines check travel authorization electronically. An approval email does not replace the passport and does not guarantee admission at the border.
